Families who have an unwell baby in Liverpool Hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit can now stay close by in a new parent accommodation room inside the unit.

Miracle Babies Foundation together with generous donations from Rotary Club of Liverpool Greenway and McDonald's Australia Limited, contributed $156,000 towards this monumental project. Parents now have access to a room with a queen bed, telephone, television and an ensuite. There is also a parents' lounge with tea/coffee facilities, microwave, fridge and television.

Dr Robert Guaran, Head of Newborn Intensive Care at Liverpool Hospital said it's important for families to be close to their sick baby.

"Families need to be close when their baby is very ill. Close contact relieves anxiety, helps with breast milk production and assists greatly in helping families when the time comes to take their very small or sick baby home," Dr Guaran said.

To allow space for the vitally important parent rooms, Miracle Babies Foundation also funded a new larger tutorial staff room, a new staff tea room and an office to have 3 Neonatologists, the miracle workers, relocated to the NICU ward closer to the babies.

Melinda Cruz CEO from Miracle Babies Foundation said the project had been a long term dream of Miracle Babies Foundation.

"This is a very monumental day for the Miracle Babies Foundation. As founding members, this project has been a long term dream of ours and to see it finally come to life is extremely exciting for us", Mrs Cruz said

"As parents of premature babies, we know how important it is to be able to offer this service to the families of these precious babies. This room can be used by families who have been transferred from a great distance, have a baby recovering from an operation, or have a baby who might be losing its fight for life," she said.

Miracle Babies Foundation would like to thank Dr Robert Guaran and the staff at Liverpool Hospital's NICU for embracing our desire to be a part of the experience and journey of these families. The Rotary Club of Liverpool Greenway and McDonald's Australia for their wholehearted support for the project. A special thank you to Lila Finlay for undertaking the role as project manager and to everyone else who donated or helped in some way - THANK YOU
