Knitting & Sewing
Every year, in Australia approximately 42,000 babies are born requiring the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery and around 23,000 of these babies are born premature.
As parents of premature and sick babies, being able to have your baby dressed is very special as it is one of the few 'normal' things that can be done for your new baby.
We receive lots of queries from wonderful knitters and sewers who would like to help provide tiny items such as gowns, booties, cardigans, bonnets, etc for the babies in a Neonatal Intensive Care Units or Special Care Nurseries. All are welcome!

Muslin Wraps
The Newborn Intensive Care Unit requires muslin wraps made especially for premature and sick babies.
The sizes needed are unique and can be used for babies that are from 25 to 40 weeks in gestation.
The wraps play an important role in aiding babies to assume the natural position they would take if still in the womb. They are to be used during the daytime when babies are big enough to be out of a humidicrib.
These wraps are made from regular muslin found in the material stores and all pastel colours are good, except yellow.
The size's required are:
- Small 60cm x 40cm Single muslin with overlocked edges
- Medium 75cm x 50cm Single muslin with overlocked edges
- Large 90cm x 100cm Double muslin with overlocked edges
Memory Blanket and Pillow
Of the 42,000 babies each year requiring the assistance of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit up to 1000 of these precious babies lose their fight for life.
Miracle Babies offers solace to families who are grieving a loss by providing a beautiful keepsake memory box and photo album set and matching memory blanket and pillow set.
You can help us to continue this very vital service by creating matching memory blankets and pillow sets. Each memory box contains two identical memory blankets and pillows, this allows the family to wrap their baby in one set and keep the identical set in the memory box we provide. We are also very grateful and accept any donations of material, press studs and wool, plus second hand newborn clothing for our clothing pool.
